Real Chips has been set up by a couple who love chips. We don’t only love chips (because frankly, that would be bizarre), we love food – everything about it: buying it (ooh to caress the smoothness of the humble aubergine), cooking it, eating it (clearly), talking about it.

Preferring to err on the side of a balanced and varied diet chips do not feature in our daily life. We may only eat them once a month, so all the more vital that when we do eat them they’re good, really good. At home we hand-cut and make our own great chips in the oven. But the disappointment comes when eating out – whether at the gastro pub or the local fish and chip shop. For us, eating great chips when we were out had become a game of Russian roulette and that was how the idea for Real Chips began.

How great it would be, we thought, to have a directory of reliably, fantastic chips at our fingertips so that wherever we were and whenever we got the urge we could be chip satisfied. And then we met Lawrence - designer, website programmer, coffee lover and all-round geek - and the idea was brought to life.

Sandra and Jim do not work in the food industry – Real Chips is a hobby. Although, by no means a frivolous one. Sandra has been asked : “So, is this Real Chips thing just for fun?”. “No”, she replied, “business should be fun, chips are serious!”
